Cookie Policy

Last updated

A cookie is a small file a site asks your browser to keep and send back on later requests. This page says exactly which ones DoctorNewsGlobal uses. It is short, because we use very few.

What we set today

One session cookie, and a token that goes with it. Together they let the server recognise a single browsing session and protect forms against cross-site request forgery. They are set by the application itself, they expire two hours after your last request, and they carry no advertising or tracking identifier.

Reading the site needs no account, so there is no login cookie and no cookie that remembers who you are between visits.

What we do not set

We run no analytics cookies, no advertising or retargeting cookies, no social-media pixels and no cross-site trackers. There is no consent banner on this site because, as things stand, there is nothing to consent to.

This is still true now that the site carries advertising. The advertisements here are sold by us directly: each one is an image stored on our own server, and clicking it goes through an address on this site before continuing to the advertiser. No advertising network is involved, so nothing is loaded from anyone else and no cookie is set — not by us, and not by them.

We do count how often each story is read, and how often an advertisement is clicked, on our own server. That counting sets no cookie: it works from a short code we derive from your address and browser, mixed with a value that changes every day, and it cannot be turned back into either. Tomorrow the same browser produces a different code, so nothing follows you from one day to the next. There is more detail in our privacy policy.

Third parties

None. Everything a page needs — the stylesheet, the scripts, the images and the typefaces — is served from this site's own domain, so opening a page contacts no other company's servers and gives no third party the chance to set a cookie or see your IP address.

When this changes

Advertising and audience measurement have both arrived, and neither brought a cookie, because we built both on our own server rather than buying them in. If that ever changes — if we take advertising from a network, or measurement from an outside company — this page will be rewritten to name every cookie involved, what it is, who sets it and how long it lasts, and the appropriate consent controls will be in place before anything is set, not after. If you are reading this sentence, no such cookie is being set.

Controlling cookies

Every major browser lets you see, block and delete cookies for a site. Blocking the session cookie will not stop you reading anything here; it may interfere with submitting a form.

More

What we collect beyond cookies — server logs, and nothing else — is set out in our privacy policy.
